Chronological Mess but a Great Day at Yale and Cambridge

Well... I am going to do something I should't do but, who cares. I'm going to write this post about today's day ( Friday, June 27) instead of keeping u chronological from where I left it last time. I know I shouldn't do this because it will create a huge disorder, but I also know that if I don't write what I did today right now, I will forget.

Having said that, let's begin:

As none of you know, I don't have classes on Friday (yay!), and most of the students don't have classes this day either, so Harvard plans a couple of activities that take the whole day during Fridays. This Friday's activity was going to Yale. I bought my ticket last week, and I was very excited about going because Yale is a prestigious university that I've never visited before. Unfortunately, we had to meet in a specific location at 7:30 a.m; which is extremely early when you share the bathroom with other 3 girls and you have a check-in curfew at 11:00 p.m. the day before.

Two of my roommates were also going to the trip. We got ready and went to the meeting location. Another bad thing about such an early meeting time is that Annenberg Dinning Hall is not open until 7:30, so we didn't had the chance to get breakfast. Every single one of us had to check in with a Harvard Proctor and give them our phone number and, as we were a lot of people, there was a long line to do that. Meanwhile, one of my roommates and I decided to go into Annenberg Hall (which was right there) and grab something we could eat fast, like an apple or a banana.
After we did this, we registered with the Proctors and we had to wait for a while until the buses arrived.
Just before the buses arrived, the Proctors told us to grab a bag of food that they had, which was our breakfast. I took one that had 'Turkey' written on the side; it contained a small bottle of water, a turkey sandwich, an apple, and some cookies. Now that I think about it, I am pretty sure that it was lunch instead of breakfast...

I really really really want to continue writing about my amazing day, because I did so much stud and had such a great time, that I wanted to share it ASAP, but I am falling asleep. I just realised how tired I am.

Byeeeee

P.S: I swear I will write tomorrow to continue today's activities.
P.S.S: Here's a small bullet point-brainstorm of what I will write about today:

  • What I wear
  • How we got to Yale
  • How Yale looks/feels like
  • Harvard and Yale relationship
  • The guided tour
  • The super cute guide of the tour
  • The 'speech'
  • How we got back to Harvard
  • How freaking hungry we all were
  • My lunch/dinner
  • Getting ready for the party
  • The party
  • The karaoke 'party' at Harvard
  • Eating a Au Bon Pain or whatever the name of that place is..
I think that's it :)

Ohhh, I just remembered. Just so you'll know, there is a Dance tomorrow night. Yay!

Byeeeeeee and sorry for sucking at this.

Arriving at Harvard

I arrived to Harvard!

I packed everything last night so I went to sleep pretty late. I had initially planned to arrive to Harvard as early as possible in order to do everything I had to, and still have time to check out extracurricular activities; but, obviously, I was very tired and I decided not to hurry so much.
After all that, I got to Harvard at around 10 something a.m. I picked up my room key and left my bags in my room. I have 3 roommates (a lot!) I meet one of them when I left my bags in the room.

My room has 3 small rooms; 2 singles and one double, a bathroom, and a common area. I am in the double room (we have a bunk bed) and my desk is in the common area.

I'll post the pictures later because my phone hasn't synchronised them...

Well...I haven't been able to write anymore down. I have so much stuff to do all the time; it's incredible that I aways have something to do. Anyway, I'll try to narrate how has been my experience so far at Harvard (Just to keep in mind, I am writing this June 26, oppss).

For some weird technological reason that I seem not to understand, my phone and my computer haven't synchronised any pictures yet, so I guess I will add the pictures once it works again. For now, I'll just tell what I've been doing these days.

The first day was a pretty busy day because I had a list of things to do. That list is called your 'H-Ticket,' and you have to have to have it with you all the time during your first day. Firstly, I picked up my room key (which I already told you), then I had to go for an 'International Student Check-In' which was basically a really long line where they gave one a paper to fill the basic information, and then one needs to show them one's passport. After that, I picked up my Harvard Summer School ID Card, which is really cool because makes everything seem more official. Then I went to the disabilities center to ask about my request for an air conditioner and lastly, I had to do a long and extremely slow line to get a vaccine I was missing. That was for my Immunization Status and it was, by far, the most boring and time consuming activity of the day.
When I was going back outside after getting my shot (and dying of hunger), I meet a nice college boy in the elevator who was also taking classes during summer. He asked me to get lunch with him but, sadly, I had to turn down his invitation because my parents were waiting for me.

I picked up some essential things I rented from the Student Services and then I went to have lunch in a Chinese restaurant with my parents.

(I'll insert food pictures here later...)

Feeling satisfied and happy, we decided to make one last 'trip' to the mall so I could get a Doctor Who jacket I totally loved (I bought it at Newbury Comics, it is an amazing store!). For some reason, I got a terrible headache so I also bought some pills for that.

We came to Harvard again, and my parents left.

Continuing My Journey at Boston

I'll continue from where I felt on my last entry...

There are a bunch of famous swan boats at Public Garden. I didn't got to ride one of them last year, but I did this year. It is a very nice, slow ride.

There was a cute little kind of island for the ducks :)

Here is a picture of a group of cute ducklings we found.

Sorry for the bunch of pictures, but I just took a lot and I think they turned out really good.

After that, we walked through Newbury Street. Something very interesting we found was a place with 3D printers.

Later on, we got to Prudential Center and decided to eat something before heading back to the hotel.
We tried the California Pizza Kitchen. It was delicious!!

We got a free appetiser; it had spinach and mushrooms.

I ordered some pasta bolognesa. It was very good. Down there is what my parents ordered. My mom got a hawaiian pizza and I can't remember the name of the pasta my dad ordered.

Boston!!

Hello! I haven't got time to write entries to my blog since I got to Boston, so I will try to summarize what I've been doing. I will try to do it in a chronological order but I may not respect every single day.
Just before I start, here's a big exciting new. I got a mac today!! :D Wohoo! It is a 13-inch macbook air and I love it!!!
Ok, enough with that... let's start:

Here are a couple of pictures I took in the plane; the view was awesome.
We, my parents and I, arrived on Sunday around 7 p.m. It is amazing how late the sun sets in here. On Monday, we went to the Prudential Center, where we enjoyed an incredible view of Boston and a bit of Cambridge.

Last year, while I was attending summer classes at Boston University I got to walk around Boston and get to know several places throughout the city. One of my favourite places to eat is Georgetown Boston. It is located in the Newbury Street (one of my personal favourite places to walk and shop). They sell amazing cupcakes and have a huge variety of offers. The local is not so big, but it has the perfect amount of space; additionally, you can see how the cupcakes are made. Here are some pictures I took in there. I completely suggest anyone that travels to Boston to try these cupcakes.

We walked from the Prudential Center to the Newbury Street to eat the cupcakes but my dad decided to guide us so we, obviously, got lost and had to walk way more to get there.
Finally, after a lot of walking, we got there and tried the cupcakes. I got a Red Velvet one, my mom got a double vanilla one and my dad got a lavender and green tea one. All of theme were exquisite.
After enjoying the cupcakes, we walked through the Newbury Street.

After walking for a while, we got to the Public Garden. It is extremely beautiful and a perfect place to take pictures. I took several pictures, but I'm going to attach here only some of them. I think that the Public Garden is a perfect place to relax and chill; it is very calm and wherever you sit, you'll be surrounded by nature and animals like ducks and squirrels.

I am getting tired so I will continue this part later.

:)

Almost there

Tomorrow is the trip, how exciting! I am making my bags right now. I feel that I won't have enough space when I come back... but I guess I'll have to wait and see. I didn't do much yesterday other than organizing my room. Today was a very exciting day for my country because our football team had its first World Cup match, against Greece. Colombia's football team hasn't been on a world cup since 1998, one year after my birth! I have never seen it play so it was awesome to support them today. All of my close family came to my house to watch the match in a big screen, we were excited and nervous. The results were amazing and made the whole country celebrate. We won!!! :D 3-0!!
I, of course, watched the other World Cup matches of the day. After that I started making my bags(...)

I am taking a big bag, a small bag and an empty duffle bag. The one in the picture is the 'big one'. I just finished filling it up and it cannot fit anything else. I try to save as much space as possible all the time, so I fill my shoes with clothes and then I tie the shoelaces as strong as I can so it occupies the less amount of space possible.

Another thing I do when I pack is organize all my pants, shorts, dresses and skirts as a single layer and then place the shirts on top and make roll it up. I find that it saves a lot of space. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the final result, but I can tell you that all my clothes only took up half of the bag.
I also like to write down on a list everything I am taking so that I don't leave anything behind.

This is how my list looks at the moment...
Lastly, I printed a 'Travel Checklist' to have an overall idea of what I should take and to make sure that I don't forget anything accidentally.

I just found a Hollister bag on the most recondite place of my bag... the funniest thing is that I've never bought anything at a Hollister store. But who cares, I love the bag and I am going to keep it.

I mean, who wouldn't keep this hottie? lol

Now I have to pack the small one but I can't think of what am I missing to pack other than my laptop. Therefore, I'll pack my laptop right now. I apologize for the pathetic entry of today, but I've been quite busy.

Getting Ready and Shopping

It's almost time to leave and I am very excited!!! Before leaving, I need to 'cover up' several things like clothing and looking presentable. Yesterday I got my nails done in a beautiful greenish mint color. I absolutely love them. Just in case anyone reads this and wonders, the nail polish is from 'Toy'.

This is how it looks...

After getting my nails ready I, obviously, needed to buy some clothes!! Yeahhh Summer Haul! :)
I bought several things from Bershka, Pull & Bear and Zara.

Let's start with Bershka. I got a pattern dress, a pair of clear denim shorts and a t-shirt.

I loved the shirt because it is from an extremely shape  soft and thin material. I got the shorts because I only have one pair of shorts and they are denim so I needed more.
I am not much of a 'girly' person, so I don't use skirts or dresses, but lately I've been falling in love with dresses I see at different shops so I decided to get some and use them this summer.
Here's how it looks on:

I love its irregular shape at the bottom and how the strings look in the back.
I also think that it could look really good with a nice cute belt...

At Pull & Bear I bought two dresses. The first one is a beautiful, long, floral dress with a little opening on the bottom, additionally it has a bit of a low back so I definitely need to use the right bra. I am totally in love with this dress, and a plus thing about it is that it is the softest, lightest material ever; perfect for a hot summer.

I am not 100% sure about this next dress... I didn't initially like it but after trying it out I thought that I could decorate it with something and it could end up looking very good. I also loved the fabric of this dress, it is super comfortable.
In the left picture I am holding it back so it has more of a shape, but I guess I could put on a brownish belt and it would look good and cause the same effect. I'm still not sure what to do with it but I'll try different things and let you see pictures once I use it.

Lastly, is my personal favourite. It is a cute shirt and a skirt I bought at Zara.

It is a super delicate shirt with some small sparkly decorations on the shirt-collar and an opening in the back, and a maxi skirt that kinds of reminds me of the ones that were popular back in the 80's. Even thought I love it, I am not sure if it is the right match for my type of body or if it makes me look bigger than I am. Anyways, I really like each piece and their combination and I will definitely use them this summer. I don't usually use these types of clothes (any of the ones I bought) but I like them and will like to give them a go.

This has been a really long entry but I enjoyed a lot. :)
